Flying scooter

Max is down right determined to build a flying scooter. He thinks he is just going to save his money to buy a motor, attach it to the scooter, and off he'll go. He did say he would add wings and a seat belt. Good grief! he doesn't seem to get it when we discuss all the reasons we are not prepared to build a flying scooter. Not that we want to discourage his creativity--we just thought maybe we could start with model rockets!

Trevor's Dad

Well, I opened my email and read a note from Trevor's dad to find out that he and Suzanne got married July 21st! And they just bought a house down the street from Grandma Gladys in Smithfield. Talk about big news...

ginny and the tomatoes

Ginny helped me pick some tomatoes yesterday in the garden. She loves this--and it's funny to hear her call them "matoes" We brought them in , and I started to make dinner. I heard her talking in the other room, and so went to look, and found her playing with the tomatoes, all lined up on the floor, there was a mommy and a baby, a daddy, etc. Hated to break it to her that we were going to eat those tomatoes for dinner....
Who needs toys when you have vegetables?

Emily's cute new haircut for school

Emily looks sooooo cute with this new haircut. Very grown-up! She was darling on first day of school with new jeans and shirt, earrings she had made, and of course the new hairstyle. Very chic for middle school. I think it was a tough day for her, though. When I picked her up, the first thing she said to me was, "Oh mom, I have to go back there tomorrow." I guess she's discouraged because hardly any of her old friends are in her classes, and she's really nervous about making new friends. These transitions are always hard for her. She'll be okay, but I'm saying a few extra prayer for her today. Max also, came home from school, and was not overly excited. He just grunted in response to my questions about teacher, friends, etc. But, my impression was that his teacher is MUCH nicer than the lady he had last year, and his classroom is really cool with one computer for every 2 students, and a cool smart board that connects to the computers. It looks like they have a huge technology emphasis, which I think will be fun for him. Max got a new haircut for school, too--a little shorter with more layers, while still trying to preserve his "longer" look. He doesn't like it, and asks me once every hour how long it will take for his hair to grow back. I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but will try to remember to do so, and will post a picture. Meanwhile, here's Emily's cute cut.

Ginny before church

Just a cute picture of Ginny before church one day. It's more and more rare to see her with her hair fixed, and and no dirt or marker smudged on her face! Gotta love summer!

Our friends the Greifzus

ON our way home from Utah, we visited the Greifzu family, who are old friends from Illinois. We first met them when Emily and their daughter Lindsay were in a 4 year old dance class together, so we've known them for quite awhile. They've moved to Des Moines Iowa, and we still try to visit them once a year, and they stop to see us once a year, too. The kids all love to get together!

Shaw Nature Reserve hike

We went on a hike to the Nature reserve with the Nelson family on a really HOT day in August, but luckily most of the trail was shady, so it wasn't too bad. We found a HUGE spider, a snake skin, many frogs, lizards in the trees, and collected tiny rocks and acorn cups for the girls' fairy castles. We threw rocks in the Meramec river, found some shells, and had a great time.

Ginny painting mess

Ginny loves to paint, and she loves it when her sister gives her a makeover, with lip gloss, nails painted, etc., but when you put the two together....yikes!

Botanical Garden pictures 2

trip to the Botanical garden

We went to the botanical garden on the first Tuesday of august for the member free day, and had so much fun! We took our neighbors with us, and the kids had a great time playing in the outdoor adventure area together. I was thrilled with the Chihuly exhibit. So fun! There was a surprise around every corner. The pictures don't really do it justice.

Photos of family vacation

Okay, so I know I have this tendency to post pictures in large bursts, so probably no one can ever look at them all, but that's just the way I am able to ever post anything, so that's life! So, I am about to post a TON of pictures, starting with our family vacation.

This first set is of the Allen Family reunion--cousins, etc.
